I joined the Morongo Basin Cultural Arts Council board of directors in September, 2011 as Communications Director. My primary responsibility was editing, composing, and maintaining the weekly arts events newsletter and e-mail list, sent to approximately 2,000 mailing list subscribers. The group was using a third party email service at the time.
In January 2012, I helped MBCAC launch a new content management system (CMS) website, built on Joomla platform. The new site, hwy62art.com, allowed us to post all news, articles, and events directly to the website (the group’s old website contained static information, often out of date).
The CMS also allowed us to easily compile posted articles into the weekly newsletter. Since the mailing list system was integrated into the CMS, the need for — and expense of — a third party email service was eliminated.
The CMS website also allowed MBCAC to accept membership applications and payments online for the first time. Members could log into their accounts and see their expiration dates, update their contact information, and renew their memberships. The group saw a marked boost in membership sign-ups when the new system was launched.
I resigned my position at MBCAC in November 2013. The group has since built a new website.
